
Welcome to the Penn Medicine, Chester County Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program.
Our program is ACGME accredited and offers nine PGY-1 resident positions each year, 27 total residents across the 3 years of training.
Applications are accepted via the Association of American Medical College’s (AAMC) ERAS platform (Electronic Residency Application Service). Applications will only be evaluated when fully complete. Our program participates in the National Residency Match Process (NRMP) Main Residency Match. Please visit the AAMC ERAS and NRMP websites for additional information.

Application Eligibility Requirements
Allopathic, osteopathic and international graduates are welcome to apply. Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible to apply to the Family Medicine Residency Program:
- Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the LCME;
- Graduates of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the AOA;
- Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who meet the following qualifications:
- Have received a currently valid certificate from the ECFMG or have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction.
- US experience is not required, but is preferred.
- J-1 Visa candidates will be considered.
Date of graduation from medical school no greater than 3 years from date of application or no greater than 3 years elapsed since engaging in consistent, full-time, independent patient care.
USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX 2 scores must be available and the applicant must have a passing score by the time of ranking.
Applications must be received no later than December 31st of the year prior to the anticipated start of residency training.
Application contents should include:
- Common Application Form (CAF)
- Medical School Transcript
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) (formerly known as "dean's letter")
- Three Letters Of Recommendation, preferably with at least one from a family physician.
- Personal Statement
- USMLE/COMLEX scores
- ECFMG Status Report (if an international graduate)
Interviews
Applications are reviewed by the Selection Committee and invitations to interview are extended by email via the Thalamus platform. Interviews will be scheduled from October to January of each application season based upon ERAS, NRMP standards. Interviews will be conducted virtually.
Second Look and On-site Open House opportunities exist for the benefit of program applicants but are not evaluative and will not affect ranking. Our Residency Program is motivated to achieve equity in the application and interview process.
Selection Process
Selection of residents occurs through the NRMP (National Residency Match Program). The NRMP main match provides an impartial venue for matching applicants' preferences for residency positions with program directors' preferences for applicants.
