Purpose Statement
PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

Program Description
The Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center (PMPH) PGY1 pharmacy residency is a twelve-month, postgraduate training program that was established in 1992 and has been ASHP-accredited since 1993. The goal of the residency is to build upon Pharm.D. education to contribute to the development of a clinical pharmacist responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions and who is eligible for board certification and/or PGY2 pharmacy residency training.
Residents interested in PGY2 residencies have the opportunity to apply for consideration for early commitment to the PMPH PGY2 Internal Medicine program or other PGY2 programs across Penn Medicine (if available).
