Elective Experiences (one-month blocks), three from the following:

  • Administration with UPHS CPO
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Cardiac Critical Care – Cardiac Surgery
  • Cardiac Critical Care – CCU
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Infectious Diseases Consult Service
  • Infectious Diseases Transitions Service (IDTS)
  • Informatics
  • Neuro Intensive Care Unit
  • Trauma Surgical Intensive Care

*Additional learning experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability at PPMC.
*Electives in areas with available experiences in multiple patient populations must be in an area not previously experienced by the resident as part of their core required experiences.

Longitudinal Experiences

  • Ambulatory Care
    • 4-hour clinic session every other week August through June
  • Committees (July through June)
    • PPMC Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee – six months
    • Medication Safety-Nursing Pharmacy Subcommittee – six months
  • Emergency Response (August through June)
    • Select weekday evening (14:00-21:00) coverage
  • Medication Use Evaluation (July through March)
  • Presentations and Practice Management (July through June)
  • Research Project (July through May)
    • A non-learning experience will be dedicated to research in the month of December on the residents’ schedule
  • Staffing / Operations (August through June)
    • The resident will staff a minimum of 24 shifts, no more than two weekends per month (two consecutive 8-hour shifts), and up to a maximum of 15 weekends (30 shifts), not including required holiday coverage (two eight-hour shifts).
    • Frequency will vary throughout the year to allow for uniform pharmacy coverage while accounting for duty hours.
