About Dr. Kurtzman

Dr. Kurtzman earned her BA in Communications from Tulane University and worked in the technology sector before completing the Postbac Premedical Program at Columbia University. She then earned her MD at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Her clinical and academic interests include microsurgery, nerve regeneration, and breast reconstruction. During residency at Penn, she looks forward to continuing her research with the long-term goal of pursuing an academic career in plastic surgery.

Research

Dr. Kurtzman’s research spans microsurgery, peripheral nerve regeneration, breast reconstruction, and surgical education. She has experience in both clinical outcomes and translational research, including studies on brachial plexus reconstruction, rabbit models of nerve regeneration, microsurgical training techniques, patient-reported outcomes in breast reconstruction, and innovations in hand surgery. Her research has been conducted across multiple institutions, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Columbia University Microsurgery Training Laboratory, Montefiore Medical Center, and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She plans to continue expanding her research portfolio as a plastic surgery resident at Penn.
