Ryan G. McQueen, MD

About Dr. McQueen

Dr. Ryan McQueen is a PGY-1 categorical general surgery resident at the University of Pennsylvania. He grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Loyola University Maryland with an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree in biology and psychology. Following college, he worked in the substance use treatment industry and received his master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Chapman University. Prior to medical school, he worked as a therapist at an inpatient psychiatric hospital. He went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin with an Honors in Research distinction. Dr. McQueen is excited to explore his growing clinical interest in surgical oncology and pediatric surgery. He also plans to pursue a career in academic surgery.

Research

As a medical student at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. McQueen conducted research across multiple departments. He primarily worked under the mentorship of pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Ronald K. Woods, MD, PhD, investigating clinical outcomes in patients with congenital heart disease. His research focused on cardiac transplantation in children with failed Fontan physiology, for which he was awarded an NIH training grant, as well as outcomes following post-Norwood ECMO in neonates with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
