About Dr. Alderete

Isaac Alderete is a general surgery resident at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2019, where he competed on the Division I men’s golf team, and earned his medical degree and Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Research from Duke University. During his time at Duke, he was selected as a CTSA TL1 Pre-doctoral Scholar and conducted research in the Duke Ex-Vivo Organ Laboratory under the mentorship of Dr. Matthew Hartwig, focusing on lung transplantation, graft preservation, and gene therapy. His research has been supported by student grants from the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In addition to his research, he worked as a USMLE tutor. He plans to pursue a career in cardiothoracic surgery with a focus on translational immunology and organ allocation policy.
