About Dr. Perrault

David Perrault completed residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University where he spent a dedicated year in the Hagey Laboratory, to initiate multiple clinical trials including the first in human use of deferoxamine for treatment of beta-thalassemia and radiation wounds. He has also spent time as a volunteer in Vietnam as the recipient of a fellowship in honor of Donald Laub. 

David is interested in the treatment of children and adolescents with congenital and acquired differences. Specifically, cleft lip and palate repair, craniosynostosis surgery, surgery for facial asymmetries, jaw surgery, traumatic and post-oncologic craniofacial reconstruction, cranial distraction, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, facial reanimation, and complex reconstruction. He is interested in improving outcomes and developing novel therapies for patients with cleft and craniofacial differences. 

After completing fellowship at CHOP, he plans to enter academic practice as a cleft and craniofacial surgeon.

Research

David Perrault is interested in improving outcomes and developing novel therapies. Previously, he developed a novel pharmacotherapy (9-cis retinoic acid) for lymphedema and elucidated the mechanism of action in a mouse model. As a resident, he studied surgical therapies for lymphedema and initiated several clinical trials including lympho-venous anastomosis during axillary lymph node dissection to prevent lymphedema and implementing the first in-human use of topical Deferoxamine to successfully heal severe chronic radiation and iron overload wounds. He has also studied smart bandages and the foreign body response to implants in the Hagey laboratory. Within craniofacial surgery, he is currently studying cleft outcomes and rare cases of squamosal synostosis that can lead to increased intracranial pressure requiring surgical intervention.
