About Dr. Hedges
Dr. Hedges graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in 2017 and matched to the University of Rochester, where she completed her PGY1 and PGY2 years. She then completed a three-year fellowship at the National Cancer Institute. During her first fellowship year, she completed a clinical fellowship in immunotherapy caring for stage IV cancer patients enrolled in phase I and phase II clinical trials to receive adoptive cell therapy strategies including Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL), CAR-T, and individualized T cell receptor therapy. She spent the next six months as a clinical fellow for the surgical oncology services, and she spent the remaining time working in the lab to improve the production process for individualized T cell receptor therapy for adoptive cell therapy in patients with solid tumors. After finishing her research fellowship at the NCI, she transferred to Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Falls Church, Virginia for the remainder of her surgical residency training to be closer to her husband. She graduated surgical residency in 2025. Dr. Hedges areas of interest include breast surgical oncology, immunotherapy, and treatment strategies for advanced disease states. After completion of her breast surgical oncology fellowship, she hopes to pursue an academic career mentoring medical students and residents and engaging in clinical trial research.

Research
Dr. Hedges research interests are in metastatic cancer, tumor microenvironment, and immunotherapy. Her college research focused on understanding the tumor microenvironment and the metastatic properties of circulating tumor cells. She built upon this foundation in her dedicated research time by focusing on cancer immunotherapy and adoptive cell therapy for solid tumors under Dr. Steven Rosenberg at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Her research studied methods to create individual T cell receptor therapy targeted towards the patient’s particular tumor antigens that could be administered as an adoptive cell therapy modality. Her work focused on developing methods for producing a less differentiated phenotype and more active adoptive cell therapy product for patient administration at clinically relevant scale. During her research time she was also involved as an investigator on several phase I and II clinical trials pertaining to adoptive cell therapy. She hopes to continue this work in her future career.
