This year marked a significant milestone for the Department of Ophthalmology and the Scheie Eye Institute, as we celebrated the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Richard, Maria, and Kristin Campbell Ophthalmic Suite on the fifth floor of our flagship building at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
Mr. Campbell’s latest gift of $1 million has advanced the Department of Ophthalmology’s strategic initiatives, leading to the creation of the following Funds:
The Kristin M. Campbell Community Engagement Fund
The Richard, Maria, and Kristin Campbell Resident Wellness Lounge Fund
The Richard G. Campbell Endowed Lectureship Fund
The Richard G. Campbell Innovation Fund
We are deeply grateful for the extensive and profound impact of the Campbell family's philanthropy, which has elevated patient care and enriched research opportunities, community engagement, trainee support, and faculty development through the endowed lectureship.
This newly enhanced space embodies Penn Medicine's ongoing commitment to exceptional patient care and operational excellence, supported by visionary philanthropy and strong community partnerships. The renovations also enable enhanced patient care and operational efficiency. The renovated suite expanded patient care capacity significantly, adding six exam rooms for a total of 14 rooms, one dedicated procedure room, and additional space for patient diagnostic imaging. The fifth-floor clinic primarily supports Cornea, Cataract, Comprehensive, Dry Eye, and Specialty Contact Lens services, with the Scheie Eye Institute now offering 50 exam rooms across three floors. Additionally, staff and faculty benefit from a functional, modernized break room.
